Chris Rogers eyeing Australia Test recall

By Samyuktha

London, July 10(ANI): Chris Rogers has knocked on the doors of the Australian selectors again by punching a knock of 93 for Derbyshire against the Ricky Ponting-led team in the two day-tour game.

Rogers, 32, who played his sole Test against India in Perth in January 2008, said he still had a hunger to play for the national side in the longest version of the game.

"It is always there. I know Australia are looking for the future a little bit, but I would like to think that if ever there was ever an opportunity that I would be ready," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Rogers, as saying.

Rogers further admitted that he had been looking forward to the clash for some time.

"This game has been looked forward to almost since last year. I have been pretty nervous about the challenge, but looking forward to it, so to do well was very satisfying," he added.

Despite a first-class average of nearly 50, Rogers did not play for the national team until the age of 30.

His batting talent had led some to anoint him as the next Australian opener, replacing Justin Langer, but he missed out on the spot to Phil Jaques.

He played his only Test match in January 2008, replacing the injured Matthew Hayden. (ANI)
