Cricketers from quake-wrecked Nepal to train in Dharamsala for World T20 qualifiers

Dharamsala, May 28: With a devastating earthquake leaving the country in the ruins, Nepal's World Twenty20 probables will train here ahead of the World Cup qualifiers scheduled in July, an ESPNcricinfo report said. The decision is in line with BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur's promise to help the neighbouring country following the series of quakes since April 25.

A 22-member squad will take part in a 15-day camp starting June 5 to prepare for the qualifiers to be held in Ireland and Scotland between July 9-26. Sources in the BCCI said Dharamsala was chosen for the Nepalese squad's training not because it is the home town of Thakur but because of the fact that the conditions here are akin to those in Ireland and Scotland in July, the ESPNcricinfo report added.

The Indian cricket board will also provide certified coaches to help Nepalese players during their training.

Nepal had qualified for the 2014 World Twenty20 but couldn't go past the group stage, despite finishing on same points with hosts and qualifiers Bangladesh because of an inferior run rate. They had won two out of three games and were accorded T20 international status in June 2014.

The Tribhuvan University Ground, Nepal's major cricketing facility, suffered big damages in the earthquake.
