India meet Sri Lanka in the Final of Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday (September 17). The two teams will lock horns at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo for the Championship clash. The defending Asia Cup Champions (T20 Format) Sri Lanka won the virtual semifinal against Pakistan to book their berth for the Final. Sri Lanka are in the Final of Asia Cup for the 12th time (both ODI and T20) as they aim to equal India's record 7 titles in the continental tournament.
Colombo has had turbulent weather of late. There have been several matches affected by rain and even the India vs Pakistan Super Fours clash had to be moved to reserved day for relentless rain. Weather has been quite unpredictable in the Island Country and on Sunday, it can be a day of see-saw battle between rain and clear weather.

Umpires having a chat with Indian captain Rohit Sharma. The cover is being taken away slowly. It looks like the match is on the cards. A scheduled inspection at 3:30 pm. Play likely to start at 3:45 pm
Rain has stopped but the covers are still on. Umpires are in the middle, overlooking the conditions.
The rain picked up a bit and hopefully it is just a passing shower. But we can expect a start soon as the umpires are in the middle.

Covers on after a little drizzle. The match start delayed. Not raining heavily though. Ravi Shastri questions why could we not start Asia Cup matches at 1:30 PM?! Good question from the former coach.

So far, eight Asian Nations have participated in the Asia Cup over the years. They are - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal, UAE and Hong Kong.
This is the 3rd Asia Cup Final which is being hosted at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Interestingly, Sri Lanka have won both the previous finals in 1997 and 2004, and India were the beaten finalists in both those occasions.
According to MSN, we are expecting around 5 mm rain from 2 pm to 4 pm today at the Sri Lankan capital. That amount of rain can halt the start of the Final.
India taking on Sri Lanka in the Final of the Asia Cup 2023 for the 8th time. These two teams last met in the 2010 Asia Cup Final, which India won by 81 runs.

There is no rain in Colombo at the moment, but a big possibility for shower in the coming hour.

Temperature right now.
A light rain is being predicted in about two hours in Colombo. The rain can start around 1:30 pm local time and continue for half an hour. It may not have that much of an impact in the proceedings.
If the reserve day play is also washed out, then India and Sri Lanka will be announced as the joint winners of Asia Cup 2023.
The Asia Cup 2023 Final can be curtailed to as little as 20 overs per side match if rain interrupts on Sunday. If rain washes out the match at any stage after the start of the game, we can move forward to the Reserve Day. The Reserve Day rule says the match will continue from the previous day's play. If rain interrupts Sunday's play at 20 overs in the first innings, it will start from the same on the next day. If no ball is bowled on the first day of the Final, then we will see a complete restart of the match on the reserve day.
Colombo has had a record of raining in the past Finals. In 2002, the ICC Champions Trophy Final was washed out even on the Reserve Day. And incidentally, India and Sri Lanka were the finalists in that match as well.
It is looking good so far in Colombo in terms of weather.
According to reports in Colombo, the chances of rain shoot up to 90 per cent in the afternoon and afterwards. If the match is washed out, we will move on to Monday (September 18) as there is a Reserve Day for the Final.
The chance of rain in the morning today is mostly moderate. It is hovering around 40 % to 50 % for a daytime shower.
The Asia Cup 2023 Final between India and Sri Lanka starts at 3:00 pm IST on Sunday. The Final is being played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
A snap shows the Colombo sky is bright and sunny. The good thing is that as we can see, even there is no cloud looming at the sea side, which is encouraging news.

The temperature in Colombo today is set to be around 28° C at daytime which will gradually decrease as the sun sets. The humidity index is around 88 per cent while a wind of around 10 km/h can be expected.
It is not that encouraging news if you are a cricket fan. Thunderstorms are predicted at 10 am, 1 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm and 10 pm - which suggests we may have multiple instances of interruption during the Final.
