London, September 10: Veteran commentator Henry Blofeld received a standing ovation from the Lord's crowd after bowing out of cricket commentary in the wake of England's 2-1 series win over the West Indies.
Blofeld, 77, joined Ian Ward and former Test Match Special colleague David Lloyd to reflect on his final stint in Test cricket after a glorious career, reports skysports.com.
He was delighted with the marvellous reception he received from fans at the ground - declaring 'It was unbelievable, wasn't it?'
"I did my first broadcast for the BBC in May 1972, and then in August I was joining people like Freddie Brown, Norman Yardley, John Arlott, Brian Johnston, Jim Swanton in a match here at Lord's," he said.
"I'd defy anyone not to be rather nervous in that situation."
Speaking to Ward, he added: "I'm 78 next week - or is it the week after, something like that - I don't quite see as well.
"Perhaps it's better to go when people are prepared to clap you rather than 'why didn't you go 10 years ago?' It's been terrific, I have loved my life."
