Competition for batting spots good for team: Ganguly

New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels that competition for a batting spot in the Indian Test squad is good for the team.

''There will always be someone who will be gunning for your place, if it's Yuvraj Singh now then there will be some else later.

It is good for the future of the Indian team,'' Ganguly said today.

There was a debate before the start of the first Test and much of it was centered on whether the stylish southpaw from Punjab should be played in place of Ganguly or VVS Laxman.

Speaking to reporters here after first day's play against Pakistan, Ganguly said, ''At this level there will be someone knocking at your door. This is bound to happen and this is good for the team.'' ''Yuvi is playing brilliantly and its good to see such competition. When he became established, there will be someone knocking at his door,'' he said.

''When me and Dravid made our International debuts, there were a lot of established players at that time, like Sanjay Manjerekar, Navjot Singh Sidhu, this is part and parcel of the game.'' When asked if he felt the pressure to perform to retain his place in the team, Ganguly said, ''Not really, I had a great time in the last 10 to 12 months after my comeback. I have been performing consistenly well, so why should I be pressured,'' he added.
