Former England captain Alastair Cook dismisses retirement talks

Perth, December 12: Former England captain Alastair Cook insisted retirement is not on his mind as he prepares for his 150th Test against Australia in the Ashes.

Already England's most capped Test player, veteran batsman Cook will reach another milestone when struggling Ashes holders England face Australia in Perth on Thursday (December 14).

But there are suggestions the end could be nigh for Cook, who has only managed scores of 37, 16, 2 and 7 as Australia enjoy a 2-0 series lead in the Ashes, with former players Mitchell Johnson and Kevin Pietersen indicating as much recently.

However, the 32-year-old opener told reports on Tuesday (December 12): "They've had no contact time with me.

"They wouldn't know the extra nets I've done behind doors.

"I have no idea [when he will retire] and I've said that since I gave up the captaincy."

If England lose the third Test at the WACA, they will surrender the urn to Australia.
