Sri Lanka national cricket team could play their T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final at home in Colombo, depending on qualification scenarios involving India and Pakistan, after the ICC confirmed a revised hosting framework for the knockout stage.
The R. Premadasa Stadium has been designated as a potential venue for Semi-final 1 under specific conditions, in what appears to be a clarification of the tournament's originally published schedule.

According to a communication sent by the ICC to stakeholders after the Super Eight line-ups were finalised, Semi-final 1 will operate as a "floating arrangement" between Colombo and Kolkata.
The governing body outlined three key scenarios:
The ICC also reiterated that India, if they reach the semi-finals, will play in Mumbai unless they are drawn against Pakistan, in which case that fixture will shift to Colombo.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan are both placed in Group 2 of the Super Eight stage, eliminating the possibility of a Sri Lanka-Pakistan semi-final.
The update represents a notable clarification from the schedule released in November, which explicitly outlined venue shifts in the event of Pakistan qualifying but did not detail what would occur if Sri Lanka advanced to the knockout stage. At the time, the ICC had stated that Pakistan's semi-final, and potentially the final, would be moved to Colombo if they progressed.
The revised communication now extends that flexibility to Sri Lanka, creating the possibility of a home semi-final for the 2014 champions.
For Sri Lanka, the incentive is significant. A semi-final at the Premadasa would offer familiar conditions and home support at a decisive stage of the tournament. For the ICC, the arrangement reflects the logistical balancing act required in a multi-venue event shaped by political sensitivities, broadcast priorities, and security considerations.
With the Super Eight stage still unfolding, the final venue picture will hinge not just on results, but on which combination of subcontinental heavyweights makes the last four.
