CPL: Chris Gayle smashes 54-ball 108* with 11 sixes as Jamaica Tallawahs win

Port of Spain (Trinidad), July 5: Chris Gayle blasted an unbeaten 54-ball 108 to lead Jamaica Tallawahs to a 7-wicket victory over Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20 tournament last night (July 4).

At the Queen's Park Oval, Gayle smashed 11 sixes and 6 fours on way to a hurricane century. Thanks to his top-class hundred, Tallawahs chased down 192 in 18.2 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. Monday's three-figure knock was Gayle's 18th in the T20 format, the most by a batsman.

It was Gayle, who single-handedly brought success to his team. The left-handed opener's strike rate was 200. The next best score was 24 off 18 balls from Andre Russell.

The 36-year-old had struggled in the initial phase of the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, he rediscoverd his form and the team went to the final where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Earlier, Hashim Amla topscored with 74 and Colin Munro supplied 55 runs as Knight Riders posted 191/4 in 20 overs. Dale Steyn took 1/56 in his 4 overs.

Brief Scores

Trinbago Knight Riders 191/4 in 20 overs (Hashim Amla 74, Colin Munro 55, Brendon McCullum 35) lost to Jamaica Tallawahs 192/3 in 18.2 overs (Chris Gayle 108 not out, Andre Russell 24)
