India's ongoing battle against caste discrimination continues as another piece of barbaric incident is coming out of the state of Gujarat.
Seven men from upper caste community have allegedly chopped off the thumb of a Dalit man with a sword as that man's nephew picked up a cricket ball while those accused were playing. The incident took place at Kakoshi village in Sidhpur taluka of Patan district on Sunday (June 4).

Kirti Parmar, a 30-year-old Dalit man was attacked by those hooligans after his brother Dhiraj had objected the upper caste people scolding his nephew for picking up a cricket ball while they were playing at a local school ground.
Dhiraj Parmar filed a complaint at Kakoshi Police Station on Monday against Kuldeepsinh Rajput, Siddharjsinh Rajput, Rajdeepsinh Darbar, Jaswantsinh Rajput, Chakubha Lakshmanji, Mahendrasinh Rajput and an unknown man, of attacking Kirti. All of the accused are residents of the Sidhpur taluka.
Dhiraj said Kuldeep had scolded his nephew for picking up a ball at the playground of ID Selia High School, where Kuldeep and his friends were playing. Upon Dhiraj's objection, they had a verbal spat and Kuldeep took his phone number to teach him a lesson.
After the match, Kuldeep and some people went to Dhiraj and Kirti's house and started a fight. After an intervention, they reached a compromise and things were cooled. But at about 6.30 pm on Sunday, Kuldeep and six others came back and found Kirti alone.
They struck Kirti with a sword and chopped off his left thumb. The hooligans also beat Kirti badly and left him unconscious at the scene. Dhiraj was informed by a shopkeeper and they rushed Kirti to a hospital in Ahmedabad.
The injured Kirti is said to be stable and Kakoshi Police Station lodged a complaint against the accused for rioting, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons, criminal intimidation and abusive words with charges under the SC/ST Act.
