This year's festivities will include a three-day "Summer Festival" outside the MCG, featuring Bollywood dance performances, live music, food trucks, pop-up cricket games, and celebrity chef demonstrations. According to local chef Kishwar Chowdhury, "Other celebrity chefs will also participate, showcasing dishes highlighting Australian produce."

The festival aims to celebrate the deep cultural connection between India and Victoria, appealing to Melbourne's diverse community and its large Indian diaspora. Dimopoulos added, "This year, there will be as much action outside the MCG as inside, with the Summer Festival offering fun for fans of all ages."

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley echoed the excitement, emphasizing the growing rivalry between Australia and India. "The rivalry between Australia and India just gets bigger and bigger, and we can't wait to see the MCG full on Boxing Day," he said.

Hockley also noted that nearly 10% of spectators are expected to travel from overseas, further boosting Melbourne's tourism and economy. The Boxing Day Test, held annually at the MCG, is a longstanding tradition that attracts cricket fans worldwide. This year, the addition of Indian cultural elements offers a unique experience for attendees.

Big screens outside the stadium will broadcast the live cricket action, ensuring fans don't miss a moment of the game while enjoying the vibrant festivities. Melbourne's hospitality sector is set to benefit significantly, with hotels, bars, and restaurants expected to be packed during the event.

Reflecting on the festival's potential impact, Dimopoulos remarked, "It'll be a huge boost to our local economy, filling hotels, bars, and restaurants as passionate cricket fans flock to Melbourne." With its blend of cricket and Bollywood, the 2024 Boxing Day Test promises an unforgettable experience, uniting sport and culture like never before.
