Cricket Australia expresses shock over Lahore attack

Melbourne, Mar.3 (ANI): Cricket Australia (CA) has expressed shock over the Lahore terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket players in which six Lankan players were wounded.

Condemning the ghastly act, Cricket Australia CEO, James Sutherland said that CA was shocked to hear the news of the attack, and strongly condemns the incident.

"Australian cricket has many friends in Sri Lanka and in Pakistan and we sincerely hope they are all safe after this awful incident," The Courier Mail quoted Sutherland, as saying.

He also offered his condolences for the security personnel who were killed in the gun battle.

"We will be seeking to talk to Sri Lankan and Pakistan cricket officials as soon as possible to pass on our condolences," Sutherland added.

t least six Lankan players, namely captain Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana were wounded in the attack.

The Lankan team convoy was attacked on Tuesday morning when it was on its way to the Gaddafi Stadium where the second Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is being played.

Five security personnel were also reportedly killed in the firing and grenade attack.

The attack has certainly raised concerns over the forthcoming Australia-Pakistan one day series which is to be played in Dubai.

The series which consists of five one day internationals and a Twenty 20 match is scheduled from April 22 to May 7. (ANI)
