Cricket Live Updates for July 7: Former India two-time World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni celebrates his 42nd birthday on Friday (July 7), a day when West Indies and Sri Lanka lock horns in a dead rubber at the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers.
Ashes action is also set to continue as England carry an overnight total of 68 for 3 into day 2 of the third Test at the Headingley in Leeds after bowling out Australia for 263, thanks to the five-wicket haul by the returning fierce Mark Wood. Now, day 2 will be an interesting on as hosts look to take a lead.

Also, the Duleep Trophy 2023 semifinal matches will continue as both the games in Bengaluru enter day 3 as West Zone close in on victory over Central Zone in 1st semifinal, while the second semifinal between South Zone and North Zone is evenly poised.
Plus, the TNPL playoff kicks off today with the Qualifier 1 which sees table-toppers Lyca Kovai Kings take on Dinidigul Dragons at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem, where the action will continue even on Saturday (July 8).
Apart from the many matches, off field developments will also be in focus as Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from international cricket just three months ahead of the ODI World Cup and midway through a home series against Afghanistan. Here is all the latest from cricket for July 7:
Stumps! An intriguing session of cricket comes to an end as Australia end the second day's play at 116/4 in their second innings of the 3rd Test. They have a lead of 142 runs and have six more wickets to extend the lead. English bowlers, on the other hand, will be pretty happy with their effort as the match is evenly poised on a ground where the hosts registered a famous win four summers back. An interesting day three awaits us tomorrow.
Big Wicket! Set Usman Khawaja - who was batting superbly - has been outfoxed by Chris Woakes for 43. There wasn't any footwork from the southpaw as he nicks the right-arm pacer and Jonny Bairstow pouches the ball comfortably. AUS - 90/4 in 35 overs.
Australia are 88/3 after 34 overs in their second innings. The visitors lost the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne (33) and Steve Smith (2) in quick succession by Moeen Ali. Smith was the third wicket to perish and he became 200th Test victim of Ali.

Australia reach 29/1 at tea break in their second innings against England. The visitors lead by 55 runs over the hosts at Headingley. Aussies lost their opener David Warner (1) cheaply. Marnus Labuschagne (7*) and Usman Khawaja (20*) are present in the middle.
Sri Lanka have defeated West Indies by 8 wickets in the dead rubber and end their campaign in the ICC World Cup Qualifier on a dominant note. The Lankan Lions have chased down the modest 244 run target in 44.2 overs. West Indies head back home disappointed for they hardly had any positive takeaways from this series.
Pathum Nissanka has been dismissed for 104 and a mammoth 190 run opening stand comes to an end. Sri Lanka need 54 more runs to win.
Pathum Nissanka has slammed his third ODI century. The opener has slammed back-to-back tons and will aim to take the confidence of Zimbabwe to upcoming contests.
England captain Ben Stokes hits back-to-back sixes off Todd Murphy and with that, he notched up yet another fine half-century. That first six also helped England get past the 200-run mark in the first innings with 9 wickets down. Pat Cummins has completed yet another five-for in Test cricket.
A century stand between openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka as they are cruising in the run chase. Nissanka has notched up a fine half-century and Karunaratne is nearing one. SL - 113/0 after 20 overs.
Sri Lanka meanwhile are motoring along in the run chase of 249 in the World Cup Qualifier game. At the end of 11 overs, Sri Lankans are 68 without any loss. Their openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka have denied any success to West Indies bowlers.
England are 142/7 at lunch break on day 2 in Headingley. It has been Australia's session as they picked up four wickets and prevented England batters from freeing their arms. Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow were dismissed cheaply inside the first hour. Later, Moeen Ali and captain Ben Stokes offered some resistance and weathered the barrage of of short-pitched deliveries from Aussie pacers. Ali was dismissed by the Australian captain Pat Cummins for 21 while the new-man-in Chris Woakes was caught behind by Carey off Mitchell Starc. Soon after Woakes' departure, the umpires signalled lunch.
West Indies have been restricted to 248 in 48.1 overs. Kaecy Carty's knock of 87 off 96 balls was the hallmark of their innings. The Men in Brown are seeking a consolation win in a dead rubber against Sri Lanka - who have already qualified for the ODI World Cup 2023 in India along with the Netherlands.
Big appeal for LBW against Ben Stokes by Scott Bolland. On-field umpire Kumar Dharamsena was uninterested. Pat Cummins goes upstairs to review it but the ball-tracking showed impact umpire's call and the not out decision was upheld.
