PHOTOS: Cricketer Dinesh Karthik marries squash player Dipika Pallikal

Chennai, Aug 19: India's wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik married squash player Dipika Pallikal on Tuesday (August 18). This was first of the two weddings for the couple.

Karthik and Dipika entered into a wedlock in a Christian ceremony on Tuesday in Chennai. Again, the pair will exchange wedding vows when the marriage is held on August 20 (Thursday) as per Telugu-Naidu tradition.

The duo was engaged in November 2013. They got to know each other at a gym in Chennai where they train under the same trainer Basu Shankar.

30-year-old Karthik is currently eyeing a comeback into the Indian cricket team. Dipika, 23, is a successful squash player having won titles at national and international levels including Commonwealth Games doubles gold.

"Dipika had a blast on Sunday afternoon (August 16) at her bachelorette party. Keeping to the theme of the party, all the guests were dressed in pink. However, Dipika sported a white dress, with a huge pink veil. Her Australian coach Sarah Fitz-Gerald was one among the guests," a family source was quoted as saying in "The Times of India".

On their relationship, Karthik had told "PTI" last year, ""That is actually interesting. It is a sports couple but I have never looked at it as a sports couple. We are like any other couple to be honest. She doesn't know much about cricket to enter into my zone though I know a little bit of squash. But that is how it is and we are okay with it."

"If you look at it, sport is our profession. We go out there and play because we are very passionate about the game we play. Perhaps the only common thing we do sport-wise is go to the gym together. Even there she has her own time and I have my own schedule. The biggest positive of our sport connection is that we like to watch each other play. I especially find it fascinating to watch squash," he had added.

Karthik's has now married again after his divorce from 1st wife and childhood friend Nikita in 2012. They had tied the knot in 2007. Nikita is now the wife of Test opener Murali Vijay.
