CSK Injury Crisis Deepens as Jamie Overton Flies Back to UK During IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings have suffered another injury setback in IPL 2026 after all-rounder Jamie Overton returned to the United Kingdom for further assessment and treatment of a thigh injury.
The franchise confirmed the development in an official statement released on social media late Tuesday night.

"Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management," CSK posted.
The franchise, however, did not provide a timeline for his recovery, leaving uncertainty over whether the England all-rounder will be available again later this season.
Jamie Overton another injury concern in difficult CSK season
Overton's injury adds to what has already been a frustrating campaign for Chennai Super Kings on the fitness front.
The 32-year-old has emerged as one of CSK's more impactful overseas performers this season, contributing in multiple phases with both bat and ball. His ability to provide middle-order hitting along with seam bowling had become increasingly valuable for Chennai during the second half of the campaign.
His absence now creates a significant balance issue for the side ahead of the playoff race.
Overton had started finding rhythm for CSK
While CSK have endured an inconsistent season overall, Overton had recently begun making strong contributions.
The England all-rounder played a key role in Chennai's recent win over Lucknow Super Giants, where his control through the middle overs helped pull the game back after an explosive powerplay from LSG.
Overton had also spoken after the match about adapting his bowling to Indian conditions and working closely with bowling coach Eric Simons on fuller lengths and tighter lines.
"Bowling in India is very different to bowling anywhere else in the world," Overton had said earlier this week.
His recent improvement had given CSK additional flexibility in both departments at a crucial stage of the tournament.
CSK now face overseas combination dilemma
With Overton unavailable, Chennai Super Kings may now need to rethink their overseas balance heading into their next fixture against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday.
CSK already entered IPL 2026 carrying concerns around squad depth and injuries, and losing an all-rounder capable of contributing across phases could force another reshuffle in the playing XI.
The franchise is yet to announce whether a replacement player will be signed if Overton's absence extends for the remainder of the season.
