MS Dhoni's former Chennai Super Kings teammate to coach England T20I team - a CSK return on the cards?

Former England cricket captain Andrew Flintoff is making a comeback to the backroom staff of the England national team for their forthcoming T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean.

Flintoff's return to the limelight comes after a car accident while filming a stunt for the BBC programme, Top Gear, which resulted in facial and rib injuries a year ago. The former England player has also played in the IPL as he donned the Chennai Super Kings shirt for a year.

Flintoff was persuaded to reconnect with the national team in an unpaid capacity by his good friend and director of England men's cricket, Rob Key. This partnership was first initiated during the ODI series against New Zealand and Ireland, preluding the World Cup. Flintoff, who became a national icon due to his stellar performances with both bat and ball during England's 2005 Ashes victory, has been appointed as the head coach of Northern Superchargers men's team in The Hundred.

While Flintoff will not be involved in the ODI series against the West Indies, it is anticipated that he will be flying out to Barbados later this week to prepare for the five T20 matches, the first of which is scheduled for the following Tuesday. The now 46-year-old Flintoff will be compensated for his role as a team mentor. Most recently, he has been in Abu Dhabi participating in an England Lions winter training camp.

Will Flintoff return to Chennai Super Kings?

The 46-year-old played for CSK for a year and as he embarks on the role of a coach, we may see him more involved in the coming years. Flintoff's indomitable attitude and passion for the game can be a force in the CSK dressing room, but a certain MS Dhoni is also likely to be involved with a frontal role at CSK when he hangs his gloves.

Will Flintoff's flamboyant approach be a good blend with MS Dhoni's calm and collective vision of the game if they work together at Chennai Super Kings? Well, it seems a far-fetched theory at the moment.
