The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a powerhouse in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have seen their jerseys evolve significantly since their debut in 2008.
Starting with their iconic yellow jersey featuring a lion, symbolizing confidence, the team's uniform has undergone numerous changes over the years while maintaining its core identity.

In this article, let us have a look back at all of those IPL jerseys worn by MS Dhoni and his troops over the years.
The first year of IPL saw the arrival of their Yellow kit with the Lion in it. CSK roared like lions in the inaugural edition but fell short in the Final as Rajasthan Royals clinched the trophy.

In 2009, despite keeping the same design, CSK added Nivaran 90 as a sponsor. They reached the semi-finals that year in South Africa.

By 2010, Coromandel King moved to the front of the jersey, with India Cements joining as a sponsor, which was also the year CSK clinched their first IPL trophy.

The team defended their title in 2011 without major jersey alterations, boasting sponsors like Reebok, Gulf, and Aircel. It was an excellent outing for MS Dhoni and his team, who beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Final.

In 2012, CSK's jersey saw minor tweaks and new sponsor additions, including Life OK. They also had a Save the Tigers campaign in that year, which was visible in their kits.

CSK had no major changes in the design as only VGN and Nissan were added as new sponsors. They reached the Final of the IPL that year but came second best to Mumbai Indians.

A year with again no change in the design but only in sponsors. MS Dhoni's men reached the playoffs but got beaten by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the Qualifier 2.

This was a horrible year for CSK for all the off-field reasons. Chennai made it to the final and lost to Mumbai Indians. It was their final year before IPL inflicted a two-year ban on the franchise.

After a two-year hiatus, CSK returned in 2018 with a refreshed jersey but the core design was the same. They had a major change in the main sponsor as Muthoot Group arrived in front of the jersey. The other old sponsors like India Cements continued. It was a joyous return as CSK lifted their 3rd IPL title that season.

CSK's 2019 jersey was identical to their previous year one as they didn't make a single tweak. The team had a good run but lost to Mumbai Indians in the final.

CSK made their IPL 2020 jersey without any major changes. SJN was added as a sponsor in the trousers but otherwise it was more of an identical kit. The team had a disastrous outing though, finishing 7th out of eight teams.

Significant changes to the jersey design were made in 2021, with the introduction of a camouflage design and five stars to represent their IPL victories. Myntra joined as a sponsor, and CSK secured their fourth title.

In 2022, the design included four trophies to signify their titles, with TVS Eurogrip as a new sponsor.

The 2023 jersey retained the iconic yellow but introduced minor changes, including the positioning of black stripes. And it was an emotional season for them with the rumours of MS Dhoni's retirement. In the end, the Super Kings clinched their 5th IPL title with a last-ball win over Gujarat Titans.

The latest 2024 season sees Etihad Airways as the official sponsor, with their name on the back of the jersey. They also added five stars to their jersey, signifying their five IPL victories over the years. CSK have kept their core design intact as they vie for their 6th IPL title.

Overall, the evolution of CSK's jerseys mirrors their journey in the IPL - one of dominance, resilience, and a deep connection with their fans.
