West Indies and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Dwayne Bravo was unveiled as the new mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hours after his retirement from all forms of cricket. Gautam Gambhir held the position at KKR in IPL 2024 before taking the India head coach job after the T20 World Cup this year.
Dwayne Bravo played his last professional match for Trinbago Knight Riders on September 24 in the ongoing CPL 2024. The franchise is owned by Knight Riders Group which owns KKR in IPL, Los Angeles Knight Riders in MLC, and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in ILT20.

His season ended early due to a groin injury as he announced his retirement as the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket. The 40-year-old was the bowling coach of five-time champions CSK after retiring from IPL in 2022. He was also Afghanistan's bowling consultant for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Riders Group, shared his excitement about the appointment and said, “DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development. His relentless drive to win, along with his vast experience and deep knowledge, will greatly benefit our franchise and players. We’re also pleased that Bravo will be involved with our other franchises globally, including CPL, MLC, and ILT20.”
Bravo also expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter, and said, “I’ve been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the last 10 years in the CPL. Having played for and against the Knight Riders in various leagues, I have a lot of respect for how they operate. The owners' passion, the professionalism of the management, and the family-like environment make it a special place. This is the perfect platform for me as I transition from playing to mentoring and coaching the next generation of players.”
The two-time T20 World Cup-winning star led Trinbago Knight Riders to consecutive trophies in 2017 and 2018 before leading St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to their maiden title in 2021.
