CSK new boy Prashant Veer to return Home on Saturday after Shoulder Injury, set to be ruled out for 3-4 Weeks

Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a blow with the injury to their marquee uncapped signing Prashant Veer, who suffered an injury in the Ranji Trophy.

The 20-year-old all-rounder, acquired for a record Rs 14.20 crore in the IPL 2026 mini-auction, suffered a shoulder injury during a Ranji Trophy match, raising concerns about his preparation for the upcoming season. And the player is set to return to his home on Saturday.

What happened to Prashant Veer?

Prashant Veer suffered a shoulder injury in the Ranji Trophy. The injury occurred on January 22, 2026, during Uttar Pradesh's Ranji Trophy Elite Group fixture against Jharkhand in Lucknow.

Veer, fielding at mid-off, dived to his right in the 30th over to stop a firmly struck drive from Jharkhand batter Shikhar Mohan. While he successfully prevented the boundary, he landed awkwardly on his right shoulder, clutching it in pain and remaining motionless on the field for several minutes.

Medical staff attended to him immediately, and he was stretchered off the field before being taken to a nearby hospital for scans. Initial assessments revealed a grade-2 tear in his shoulder, a moderate injury that typically requires rest and rehabilitation.

Veer returned to the stadium later that day with his arm in a sling, confirming he would play no further part in the match. Uttar Pradesh subsequently introduced left-arm spinner Shivam Sharma as a serious injury replacement, who contributed by taking a key wicket on Day 2.

Prashant Veer to return Home on Saturday

Prashant Veer is expected to return to his Uttar Pradesh home on Saturday after his injury. MyKhel understands the player is currently recovering well and will have a rest of around 10-12 days, before his rehabilitation begins. The youngster is from the Sahajipur village in UP's Amethi district.

Veer, a promising spin-bowling all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh, emerged as one of the hottest prospects in domestic cricket leading up to the IPL auction. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball, particularly his left-arm spin, drew comparisons to established stars and positioned him as a potential long-term successor to players like Ravindra Jadeja in the CSK setup.

Will Prashant Veer play for CSK in IPL 2026?

The IPL 2026 season is scheduled to commence on March 26, 2026, and run until May 31, featuring 84 matches across 10 teams. With the tournament starting in less than two months from the injury date, Veer's recovery timeline is crucial. Experts estimate that a grade-2 shoulder tear generally sidelines a player for 3-4 weeks, focusing on rest, physiotherapy, and gradual strengthening exercises.

However, CSK will monitor his progress closely, as shoulder injuries can sometimes lead to complications or require extended rehabilitation to prevent recurrence. But overall, the uncapped youngster has all the chances to feature for CSK in IPL 2026.
