CSK Playoff Qualification Scenario IPL 2025: Can Chennai Super Kings advance to Last Four Anymore? Updated after defeat against PBKS

By MyKhel Staff

Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2025 campaign has gone from bad to worse. Their latest defeat - a demoralising loss at home to Punjab Kings on April 30 has left their playoff hopes virtually shattered.

With just two wins from ten matches, the five-time champions are now staring at one of their worst IPL seasons ever and they are eliminated.

Updated IPL 2025 Points Table – CSK After 10 Matches

  • Matches Played: 10
  • Wins: 2
  • Losses: 8
  • Points: 4
  • Position: 10th (Last)

With only four games left to play, CSK’s path to the playoffs is now more mathematical than realistic. Their Net Run Rate remains among the worst in the league, and their margin for error no longer exists and even a spotless final four games are most likely won't be enough.

CSK Playoff Qualification Scenario: Can Chennai Super Kings Qualify for IPL 2025 Last Four?

1. Maximum Points They Can Now Achieve: 12

Chennai can now reach a maximum of 12 points if they win their remaining four matches. But 12 points won't be enough in this year’s cutthroat race. Historically, 12 points have occasionally been sufficient for a fourth-place finish, but only in seasons where multiple teams underperformed. That is not the case in IPL 2025.

Why are CSK Eliminated from IPL 2025?

Even if Chennai Super KIngs get to 12 points, as PBKS have already reached 13, MS Dhoni's side has no chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

RCB (14) and PBKS (13) are already ahead of them. And with Mumbai Indians set to play for Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals, CSK's place out of the Top Four is confirmed.

To climb out of the bottom, CSK would need dominant, lopsided victories to improve their NRR significantly, which currently stands as a huge roadblock. The focus for the Super Kings will be to end the season with a flurry of wins and probably spoil the party of other teams above them.

CSK's Remaining Fixtures in IPL 2025

  • May 3: vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Away)
  • May 7: vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Away)
  • May 12: vs Rajasthan Royals (Home)
  • May 18: vs Gujarat Titans (Away)

Their latest performance against PBKS has already buried any semblance of momentum. What remains now is little more than pride, and perhaps a farewell run for MS Dhoni if this does turn out to be his final season.
