Defending champions Chennai Super Kings have retained the core of their title winning side and released just 8 players from the 2023 squad ahead of the mini auction of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni will once again lead CSK, who have retained also retained the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Anjinkya Rahane alongside Sri Lankan duo of Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana.

Apart from the retentions, CSK will receive a massive boost of their skipper MS Dhoni returning for another season as well as the players like Mukesh Choudhary and Chahar, who will be back in the squad after injury saw them miss action in 2023 season.
Meanwhile, CSK has released overseas players like Dwaine Pretorius, Sisanda Magala and Kyle Jamieson. The Yellow brigade will also miss England all-rounder Ben Stokes, who pulled out of the tournament, and also Ambati Rayudu, who retired at the end of last season.
Following the release of Stokes, the third most expensive player in IPL 2023 auction, CSK's purse received a boost as they look to fill up the void especially in the bowling attack as they need at least one more first-choice pace option.
Chennai Super Kings will look to bring that X Factor bowling option and will also look to add some exciting T20 talent with 6 slots still left to fill at the auction on December 19, 2023.
