In a major development ahead of IPL 2026, Suresh Raina may have given a hint that he will take up the role of batting coach for Chennai Super Kings.
The announcement was made during the live broadcast of CSK's final IPL 2025 match against GT, adding an emotional layer to what could potentially mark the end of another era for the iconic franchise.

Often hailed as "Mr. IPL", Raina expressed his excitement about rejoining the CSK setup, this time in a mentoring role. His deep understanding of the franchise's ethos and his illustrious batting record in the IPL make him a natural fit for this transition into coaching.
The announcement has sparked excitement among fans and former players alike. Raina's return is being viewed as a timely and strategic move for a CSK side that endured a dismal 2025 season, finishing at the bottom of the table. With several of their senior players possibly moving on, the presence of a seasoned campaigner like Raina in the dressing room could help shape a new batting core.
While the franchise is yet to release an official press note, Raina's fellow commentator Aakash Chopra gave the public confirmation on live television, which has already set the tone for CSK's planning heading into IPL 2026.
Although Raina will rejoin MS Dhoni in the CSK, it is still a doubt if the former will have the India legend as a player. Dhoni, 43, has yet to confirm if he would return for IPL 2026. Fitness has been a concern and when asked if Dhoni would return next season, he denied any comments, and took the leverage of time.
"I have 4-5 months to decide, there's no hurry to decide what needs to be done. Every year it's more effort to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best, this is top level cricket. It's professional cricket. It's not always performance you can count. Whether the team needs or not, so I have enough time. Will go back to Ranchi, haven't been home for a while, so I will enjoy a few bike rides and then decide. I am not saying I am done, not saying I am coming back at the same time. I have the luxury of time. Will think about it and then decide," Dhoni said after the conclusion of the season.
