CSK vs DC IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals (DC) registered their first win of the IPL 2024 season by beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Sunday, March 31.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first in their first home match. Prithvi Shaw came in place of Ricky Bhui, and came out top open with David Warner. Shaw scored 43 runs off 27 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. His partnership with Warner (51 off 32) accounted for 93 runs off 56 balls.

Captain Rishabh Pant promoted himself at three and scored 51 off 32 balls. The innings consisted of four boundaries, and three sixes. Matheesha Pathirana picked three wickets for 31 runs for CSK.
Chennai faltered in the chase and lost two wickets for seven runs in 2.5 overs. Openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (1) and Rachin Ravindra (2) were dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed, but Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell partnered for 68 runs for the third wicket. Rahane scored 45 off 30, while Mitchell chipped in with 34 off 26.
However, Mukesh Kumar pulled back things for Delhi by dismissing Rahane and Sameer Rizvi (0 off 1) on consecutive deliveries in the 14th over. The pacer also dismissed Shivam Dube (18 off 17) on the first ball of the 17th over to completely push CSK out of the match.
MS Dhoni went berserk with the bat, scoring 37 unbeaten runs off just 16 balls but the five-time champions fell 20 runs short of the target. The former captain smashed four boundaries, and three sixes. His partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (21* off 17) accounted for 51 not out runs off 23 balls. This was CSK's first defeat under Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK Captain): "I was pretty happy with how the bowlers came back after the first six overs, restricting them to 190 was a good effort. First innings played better for the batting side, second innings there was some seam movement. Rachin [Ravindra] was missing it by a big margin, because of the extra bounce and movement.
"That was the difference. At halfway I felt it was gettable, but we couldn't capitalise in the powerplay. We were always behind, trying to catch up and get the rate down. First few overs we bowled well, but the last two overs [of the powerplay] was expensive. After two wins, you can expect one below par, so not much to worry about."
Anrich Nortje (Delhi Capitals captain): "Felt a lot better today [after injury comeback], slowly but surely getting into things. The training is paying off. Focusing hard on where I want to land it. [Wide yorkers at death] It's something new to me, trying to execute whenever possible. [DC attack] We're building up slowly, the starts by the guys have been excellent, swinging the ball. Really exciting for me as the fourth-change bowler."
Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals captain): "Bowlers have been clinical today. We've learnt from our mistake. He's been working hard from last two weeks (Shaw). We thought it's time to give him a chance and he flourished. It will depend on match to match, but if Mukesh can bowl at the death it'll be great.
"As a cricketer I've to give my 100 percent. Took some time initially as I haven't played much cricket in the last 1.5 years. This is something I've depended my life on. Always had the self-belief that whatever happens, it's important to come back to the ground."
Khaleel Ahmed (Man of the Match/Player of the Match): Have worked hard in the domestic season. Played a lot of matches in the last six months which has helped me know my game better. Love it when the ball swings and the batters get beaten. Have tried to figure out how I can keep myself fit. Red-ball game teaches you a lot about how the ball is coming out of the hand. Ultimate goal is to play for India.
