CSK vs DC Match Report, IPL 2025: The Delhi Capitals scripted a memorable 25-run win over the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk in what turned out to be a historic night in IPL 2025.
By breaking a 15-year winless streak at this venue, DC not only topped the points table with their third consecutive victory but also exposed the growing cracks in CSK's campaign.

Opting to bat first, Delhi posted a commanding 183/6 on a sluggish surface, thanks to a classy 77 from skipper KL Rahul and vital contributions across the middle order. In response, CSK faltered early in the powerplay yet again, losing key wickets and never quite recovering.
Despite a fighting 30 from MS Dhoni and some brief resistance from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube, the hosts finished at 158/5 - well short of the target. With this defeat, CSK slumped to their third straight loss, triggering serious concerns over their top-order form and powerplay strategy.
As the dust settles at Chepauk, Delhi Capitals march on with momentum, while CSK return to the drawing board, desperate for answers.
Opting to bat first, Delhi Capitals found themselves in early trouble as Jake Fraser-McGurk fell for a 5-ball duck in the very first over, caught by Ashwin off Khaleel Ahmed. However, Rahul, captaining in Faf du Plessis' absence, played a scintillating knock at the top. His 77 off 51 balls, studded with 6 fours and 3 sixes, was the backbone of Delhi’s innings. He was well-supported by contributions from Porel (33 off 20), Axar (21 off 14), Rizvi (20 off 15), and Stubbs, who finished unbeaten on 24 off just 12 balls.
Despite Pathirana’s brilliant spell at the death — where he returned with figures of 4-0-31-1 — DC managed to post a challenging 183/6, which looked above-par on a slow surface. Khaleel Ahmed also stood out with the ball later in the match, but it was his early strike in the first innings that had already given DC the edge.
The chase got off to a rocky start for CSK. Rachin Ravindra was dismissed in the second over for a scratchy 3, and Ruturaj Gaikwad followed soon after, undone by a sharp short ball from Mitchell Starc. Devon Conway, returning to the XI to inject some powerplay intent, failed to make an impact and was out for 13 after a laborious 14-ball stay.
At 41/3 at the end of the powerplay, CSK were already behind the eight-ball — a recurring theme for them this season. The side never really recovered from the early setbacks and looked like they were always playing catch-up.
Just when CSK fans hoped for a counterattack, Shivam Dube briefly ignited hope with the first six of the innings in the 10th over. However, his innings ended the very next ball, caught by Stubbs off the bowling of Vipraj Nigam. The young pacer struck again soon after, removing Conway, and finished with excellent figures of 2/27.
Ravindra Jadeja’s stay at the crease was brief and uninspired, as he fell lbw to Kuldeep Yadav for just 2. From that point, only MS Dhoni showed any resistance. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter rolled back the years with a gritty 30* off 26 balls, but with no support from the other end, the chase fell flat.
"Since the last few games it's not going our way. We are trying to improve, trying our best but not going our way,” said CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. “Definitely lost too many wickets. (Powerplay) It's a major concern even in the bowling department. We are giving away 15–20 runs extra or losing too many wickets."
"I just think that we are slightly over-concerned or tentative — whoever is bowling in the powerplay. And with the bat, obviously you don't want to lose an extra wicket, but it's just about being positive. I think it's about being on the back foot and not being on the toes. Everyone needs to come together to make things happen. We need to make things happen."
"Since the powerplay, we were always playing the catch-up game. We were too far behind and we only had one batter left. DC bowled really well and used the conditions really well. Even when Shivam (Dube) was batting, we were looking for momentum but it just didn't happen."
This victory marked only the second time that Delhi Capitals have won their first three games in an IPL season — the previous instance being in 2009. It also ended a 15-year wait for a win over CSK at Chepauk, echoing a similar jinx-breaking moment when RCB defeated CSK at this venue for the first time since 2008 just a week earlier.
Delhi’s bowling unit, featuring the likes of Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, Vipraj Nigam, and Mukesh Kumar, executed the team’s plans to perfection. Starc was especially potent upfront, while Kuldeep applied the brakes in the middle overs.
For CSK, the problems are piling up. Powerplay failures, inconsistent middle-order showings, and leaky bowling have all contributed to their recent slump. With the season heating up, they will need a collective effort — and soon — to avoid falling further behind in the playoff race.
