CSK vs DC Toss Result Today: Axar Patel Wins Toss, Delhi Capitals Opt to Bowl First

Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings in Match 18 of IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. The decision reflects the expected nature of the Chepauk surface, where early assistance for bowlers and possible dew later in the evening can influence chasing conditions.

Chennai Super Kings, still searching for their first win of the season after three consecutive defeats, will now look to set a competitive total on a surface that typically slows down as the innings progresses. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have preferred to chase after showing composure in run pursuits earlier this season.

Toss Update: CSK vs DC

Ruturaj Gaikwad called tails, but the coin landed in favour of Delhi Capitals, with skipper Axar Patel winning the toss and electing to bowl first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Explaining the decision, Patel said Delhi preferred to chase given their recent success in run pursuits and the nature of the surface. "We want to bowl because obviously, in the last two matches we have chased well. It is also a fresh wicket, so yes, we would like to chase," Patel said at the toss.

Delhi Capitals made two changes to their lineup, handing an IPL debut to Auqib Nabi Dar, the Jammu & Kashmir all-rounder who has impressed in domestic cricket. Ashutosh Sharma also returned to the side, while Nitish Rana and Vipraj Nigam made way.

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged the dry look of the pitch but expressed confidence in his side's approach despite losing the toss."The pitch looks a bit on the drier side. We were 50-50 about the toss, but it's good to back ourselves. The aim is to put our best foot forward today and get that first win on the board," Gaikwad said.

Gaikwad also confirmed key team updates, including the return of Dewald Brevis to strengthen the middle order, while Gurjapneet Singh was brought into the playing XI as a bowling option.

What the Toss Means for CSK vs DC at Chepauk

The decision to bowl first aligns with recent trends at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, where chasing teams have benefited from improved batting conditions later in the game. While Chepauk has historically assisted spinners, recent matches have shown that the surface offers reasonable batting conditions early before slowing down.

For Delhi Capitals, bowling first allows their seamers to exploit any early movement before handing over control to spin options during the middle overs. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, will aim to build a steady Powerplay and preserve wickets to target acceleration in the death overs.

Given CSK's early-season struggles with batting consistency, the first six overs will be crucial in determining whether they can post a competitive total.

CSK vs DC Preview after Toss

Chennai Super Kings enter this fixture under pressure, currently placed at the bottom of the standings after three losses. Their batting unit will need a strong start, particularly from the top order, to challenge Delhi's disciplined bowling lineup.

Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, will aim to capitalize on their decision to bowl first by striking early and controlling scoring momentum through the middle phase.

With Axar Patel opting to chase, the focus now shifts to Chennai's ability to handle early pressure and set a total that challenges Delhi under Chepauk conditions.
