CSK vs DC: Who Was the Most Valuable Player in Delhi Capitals’ 25-Run Win Over CSK in IPL 2025 at Chepauk?

CSK vs DC: In a pulsating clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Delhi Capitals etched a historic victory over Chennai Super Kings, securing a 25-run win in their IPL 2025 encounter.

It was a night of redemption for the Capitals, who ended a 15-year drought at Chepauk, having last beaten CSK at this venue back in 2010. While the win was a collective team effort, it was KL Rahul's sublime knock that stood out as the defining performance of the evening.

With regular skipper Faf du Plessis unavailable, KL Rahul not only stepped up to open the innings but also delivered a captain's innings that changed the complexion of the match. His 77 off 51 balls was a perfect blend of poise and aggression, setting the tone for Delhi's competitive total of 183. For his crucial knock under pressure and inspirational leadership, Rahul was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player of the contest.

Most Valuable Player (MVP): KL Rahul – 77 (51 balls, 5 fours, 3 sixes)
Result: Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings by 25 runs.
Venue: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

KL Rahul’s Commanding Knock: The Game-Changer

Promoted to the top of the order in du Plessis’ absence, Rahul seized the opportunity with a composed yet commanding 77 off 51 deliveries, striking at 150.98. His innings, laced with five fours and three massive sixes, was not just about flair — it was about timing, temperament, and tactical brilliance.

DC had a shaky start with Jake Fraser-McGurk departing for a five-ball duck in the very first over. But Rahul’s calming presence absorbed the early pressure. He rotated the strike efficiently, absorbed the bounce and turn of the Chepauk track, and capitalised on the loose deliveries with calculated aggression. His half-century came at a critical juncture, providing Delhi the momentum they needed to push beyond the 180-run mark — an eventual match-winning total.

Rahul Leads from the Front

Rahul’s knock wasn’t just about runs on the board — it was a masterclass in leading from the front. With experienced campaigners like du Plessis missing, the onus was on him to steady the ship. He stitched together vital partnerships — 54 with Porel and 56 with Rizvi — that helped rebuild after early wickets. His ability to guide young players while maintaining a solid strike rate exemplified his maturity.

In a game where CSK’s powerplay struggles were glaring, Rahul’s approach stood in contrast. He was assertive without being reckless and paced his innings to perfection. Even when DC lost Axar Patel and Sameer Rizvi in the middle overs, Rahul kept the scoreboard ticking before eventually falling in the 20th over while trying to up the ante.

A Knock That Broke the Chepauk Curse

Until this match, Delhi Capitals had not beaten CSK at Chepauk since 2010. The venue had turned into a fortress for the men in yellow. But Rahul’s fearless batting, combined with DC’s disciplined bowling, finally turned the tide.

Reflecting on the match dynamics, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged the pressure his side faced.
“Since the last few games it's not going our way. We are trying to improve, trying our best but not going our way,” he said post-match.
“Definitely lost too many wickets. (Powerplay) It's a major concern even in the bowling department. We are giving away 15–20 runs extra or losing too many wickets.”

He further added, “Since the powerplay, we were always playing the catch-up game. We were too far behind and we only had one batter left. DC bowled really well and used the conditions really well. Even when Shivam (Dube) was batting, we were looking for momentum but it just didn't happen.”

The Rahul Effect: Setting the Tone

In T20 cricket, it’s all about seizing the big moments. Rahul did exactly that. Despite the loss of an early wicket, he never let the innings stagnate. His ability to accelerate at will, rotate strike smartly, and punish the bad balls set the tone for the rest of the batting unit. His innings gave Delhi the cushion they needed — one that proved crucial when CSK began a late push led by MS Dhoni.

More importantly, Rahul’s influence wasn’t just restricted to batting. His calm demeanour, field placements, and bowling changes ensured DC kept the pressure on CSK throughout their innings. Bowlers like Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav thrived under his leadership, with Nigam taking two critical wickets — Conway and Dube — to break CSK’s backbone.
