CSK vs GT, IPL 2023 Final: Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad Pitch Report and Weather Forecast

Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings face reigning champions Gujarat Titans in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on the reserve day (May 29) with the match set to start at 7:30 PM IST.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led CSK head into the match on the back of their ninth win of the season, while GT led by Hardik Pandya are fresh from their eleventh win of the campaign. CSK, who has one No Result, has won 9 in 15, whereas GT has won 11 in 16.

Narendra Modi Stadium to host CSK vs GT IPL 2023 Final

Both CSK and GT will be keen to carry on their winning momentum and clinch the title when clash in for the third time this season and for the second time at Narendra Modi Stadium, which will host it's ninth match of the season. GT have won five and lost three so far at home.

GT opened their season with a 6-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at their home venue, but suffered a couple of 3-wicket defeats to Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals before a 55-run win over Mumbai Indians.

The reigning champions, however, suffered another 5-run loss to Delhi Capitals in a low-scoring thriller at home before bouncing back-to-back win over Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs followed by a 34-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In the most recent fixture, the Titans set the highest total in IPL at the venue and sealed a 62-run victory over record champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 qualifier 2 on Friday (May 26).

Ahead of CSK vs GT 2023 Final meeting at the Narendra Modi Stadium, we take a look at the pitch report and weather forecast for the day as some parts of the country have received summer showers.

Ahmedabad weather forecast on Monday, May 29

The match was postponed from the originally scheduled date - Sunday, May 28 after persistent rains throughout the playing hours, starting from 6:30 PM IST and continued into midnight. So, the IPL 2023 final was moved to the reserve day - Monday, May 29.

On the reserve day (Monday, May 29), there is no prediction of rain throughtout the day as it stands according to AccuWeather. So, there is a chance of a full T20 game being played on the reserve day.

However, Weather.com has the latest update that also looks promising during the playing hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rains or thundershowers over isolated parts of Ahmedabad today.

In fact, a yellow watch has been issued over the city for today so as to urge locals to 'be updated' about the inclement weather. As per The Weather Channel India, the weather will remain sunny until noon but turn cloudy in the evening hours.

After 6:30 PM, the skies will be mostly clear, with the chance of precipitation touching 22% later in the evening. But for the most part, skies are expected to be clear - at least for the duration of the match.

Narendra Modi Stadium Pitch Report

The Narendra Modi Stadium has been batting friendly so far, but has provided a little assistance for new ball bowlers. The average score batting first in IPL at the venue is 171 and batting second is 156. In 2023, however, the average score batting first is 193.

Among the eight matches hosted at the venue in 2023 season, the teams chasing came out on top three times, while the team defending has won fivee matches. The venue has seen some high-scoring contests this season.

GT chased down a target of 179 set by CSK with 4 balls to spare, while KKR pulled off a 205 run chase against GT followed by RR completing a 178 run chase. However, GT defended 207 against MI, who could only reach 152.

In the fifth match, GT struggled to chase down a paltry 131 against DC, but in the following game the hosts scored the highest total at the venue by setting a target of 228 for LSG and later restricted the visitors to 171. In the seventh match, GT defended 188 against SRH.

In the most recent match, GT rode on Gill's hundred to set a target of 234 before Mohit Sharma's fifer bundled out Mumbai Indians for 171. Suryakumar Yadav also scored a fighting fifty for MI in a losing cause.

As per the venue history, the chasing teams and the teams batting first have the same kind of success. However, with the last five matches ending in favour of the team batting first and the final pressure, the skipper may opt to bat first.
