CSK vs KKR IPL 2026: Sanju Samson’s ‘Flying Bat’ Moment Sends Chepauk Crowd Into Splits

CSK vs KKR: Chennai Super Kings star Sanju Samson had the fans in a split during their game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Kerala star was batting at the MA Chidambaram Stadium when his bat slipped out of his hands. The CSK opener's bat flew away alongside the ball, only to land safely at some distance near the 30-yard circle.

The incident took place in the 8th over of the innings when Sanju Samson was up against mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy. Attempting to launch the bowler out of the park, Samson lost his balance during the shot, causing his bat to slip from his hands and fly towards the square leg region.

The unusual moment left players and spectators surprised, as the bat had to be retrieved first by the umpire before being handed back to Samson by Dewald Brevis. The light-hearted incident added an entertaining twist to the high-intensity encounter.

CSK Post 192/5 Against KKR In First Innings

The first innings of the clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2026 saw CSK post a competitive total of 192/5, built on an explosive start and key middle-order contributions. After being asked to bat first, CSK made full use of the Powerplay, racing to 72/2 in six overs and putting immediate pressure on the KKR bowling attack.

The early momentum was driven by aggressive intent from the top order, despite the loss of quick wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwad fell early, but Ayush Mhatre continued his impressive form with a quickfire 38 off just 17 deliveries, striking at a remarkable pace and giving CSK the early edge. His innings included a flurry of boundaries before he was dismissed at the end of the Powerplay.

In the middle overs, Sanju Samson anchored the innings with a composed 48 off 32 balls, falling just short of a well-deserved half-century when he was clean bowled by a fiery 148 kmph delivery from Kartik Tyagi. His dismissal proved to be a turning point in KKR's bowling effort.

Support came from Dewald Brevis, who added a valuable 41 off 29 balls, ensuring CSK maintained momentum through the middle overs. The innings was further stabilised by contributions from the lower order, helping CSK reach a strong total.

For KKR, Sunil Narine was the standout bowler with excellent control, while Tyagi's breakthrough spell and overall 2/35 proved crucial for the visitors.
