Lucknow Super Giants pulled off a stellar victory over Chennai Super Kings in Match 39 of IPL 2024 on Tuesday (April 23) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
LSG chased the highest total at Chepauk and won the match by 6 wickets as Marcus Stoinis scored an unbeaten 124 runs off just 63 balls.

Stoinis, entering the crease at 33/2, showcased aggression and finesse, propelling his team toward victory with invaluable contributions from Nicholas Pooran (34 off 15) and Deepak Hooda (17* off 6).
The match was also notable for CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's remarkable century as he became the first CSK captain to score an IPL century. Gaikwad and Shivam Dube (66 off 27 balls), forged a 104-run partnership, setting a solid foundation for CSK with a score of 210/4.
LSG's pursuit of the target began on a shaky note, losing their openers early. However, Stoinis's aggressive approach, combined with CSK's struggle to contain him, shifted the momentum. Despite Devdutt Padikkal's brief struggle, Stoinis's onslaught continued, reaching his fifty in just 26 balls. The dismissal of Padikkal did little to deter him, as Pooran joined in, further intensifying the attack. Their efforts drastically reduced the required run rate, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.
In a dramatic conclusion, Stoinis dominated the final overs, achieving his century in 56 balls. With Hooda's support, the duo narrowed down the target, leaving LSG needing 32 off the last 12 balls. Stoinis's final over heroics, including a sequence of boundaries, sealed the victory for LSG, etching this match into IPL history as a showcase of determination and skill.
The match commenced with LSG opting to field first. Under Gaikwad's leadership, CSK built a formidable total, propelled by his swift fifty and a significant partnership with Dube. Contributions from Ravindra Jadeja and a final push by MS Dhoni set a challenging target for LSG.
However, despite Gaikwad's century and a strong start, CSK's effort fell short in the face of Stoinis's spectacular inning, leaving LSG as the victors in a match that was as thrilling as it was historic for the Super Giants.
