In Match 39 of IPL 2024, the five-time champion CSK will welcome Lucknow Super Giants at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday (April 23).
CSK and LSG had met each other three times in the past and LSG had won two of them. Their last match was just a few days ago at the home of LSG and the host managed to chase down the target set by the visitors.

Both the teams have played seven matches so far and four of them and CSK is in the fourth position just above LSG due to a better net run rate. In the last five games, the defending champions have lost three of them, though they made Chepauk a fortress as they remain unbeaten at this venue for three games. In contrast, LSG lost two, out of their three away games. IPL 2024 Points Table | Most Sixes Standings
The pitch condition at Chepauk has favoured spinners and pacers with variations in the matches played here. As the pitch is expected to behave similarly, it will be a great advantage for CSK due to the experience and diversity they have in their bowling unit.
Tushar Deshpande, Mustafizur Rahman, Matheesha Pathirana and Deepak Chahar will lead the pace attack while Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali will manage the spin department. Moeen Ali could be effective against the LSG left-handed batters, especially against Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran.
The Lucknow side certainly lacks the experience their opponent's bowling side has. Mayank Yadav will miss the match also, and in his absence, the Pace attack will be spearheaded by Mohsin Khan and Yash Thakur. Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi will lead the spin attack. Matt Henry and Arshad Khan can be the other options in pace.
Mustafizur Rahman (CSK): The left-arm medium-fast bowler from Bangladesh is very crucial for CSK's IPL campaign. Rahman already bagged 11 wickets in six matches. Though in the last match against LSG, he was the most expensive bowler from CSK, in Chepauk his variations in pace will come in handy. Also, LSG has been vulnerable against left-arm pace from the last season, which also brings Rahman into the picture against the visitors.
Matheesha Pathirana (CSK): The 21-year-old Srilankan pacer was instrumental in CSK's successful campaign in IPL 2023. He bagged 19 wickets in 12 matches. As for this season, the right-arm fast bowler has picked 9 wickets already in just four matches. His yorkers with extreme accuracy could be fatal in the death overs.
Yash Thakur (LSG): The 25-year-old Indian right-arm medium bowler has eight wickets so far this season. The Kolkata-born fast bowler was instrumental in the victory over GT, taking five wickets. Thakur has played 15 IPL matches and taken 21 wickets. In the absence of Mayank Yadav, LSG will rely on him against CSK's star-studded batting line-up.
Ravi Vishnoi (LSG): So far, the 24-year-old right-arm legspinner's IPL career has remained decent. Bishnoi has 58 wickets in the IPL thus far. This season, the youngster took 5 wickets in 7 matches. He will be expected to do well on Chepauk's spin-friendly pitch.
Both teams have a similar inconsistent journey in this IPL so far. Chepauk remains a fortress for the Yellow Brigade so far, but LSG lack the firepower in their bowling to contain the CSK batting into a small score. At this juncture, it is very crucial to win the game for both of them to stay in the competition for the playoffs, but it will be quite an uphill task for the visitors to beat CSK at their home.
