CSK vs LSG IPL 2023: Ravi Bishnoi stands tall among misfiring Lucknow bowlers

By Aditya K Halder

Ravi Bishnoi's IPL 2023 career has been so far so good as the wrist spinner impressed with a spell of 3/28 during CSK vs LSG match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday. The Lucknow Super Giants bowler attracted attention because the rest of his teammates, with as many as nine bowling options on the day, leaked runs aplenty.

Ravi Bishnoi lacked support from the other end as the likes of Avesh Khan, Krunal Pandya, and K Gowtham all gave away runs at an alarming economy rates. Last-match hero Mark Wood did take three wickets, including that of MS Dhoni, but gave away 49 runs in return as CSK posted a huge 217/5.

Ravi Bishnoi left his mark in the match as early as his first over when he halted the free-flowing innings of Ruturaj Gaikwad at 57. The opener, who scored his consecutive half-century, took CSK past 100 by the end of the eighth over and was setting himself up for a big ton. The 22-year-old spinner, however, had him top-edged at the short third man.

Ravi Bishnoi was all about taking big wickets on the night as he had the last laugh against Shivam Dube, who shot him for consecutive sixes right before the dismissal. The U-19 World Cup star set Dube up well for the wicket with a googly as the southpaw was top-edged for another catch to Mark Wood at short third man.

Bishnoi's third wicket was also the best of the night as he had Moeen Ali stumped. And it won't be wrong to say that the English batter, a spinner himself, appeared a mere rookie in the dismissal. The left-handed Englishman was deceived well with a googly outside off stump that turned away from Moeen, who committed himself for a big shot after coming out of the crease.

Bishnoi may soon become skipper KL Rahul's main strike bowler at the IPL as their home turf in Lucknow's Ekana Stadium has been known to have turn on the offer for the spinners. The Haryana-born lad showed glimpses of that in the last game as he took 2/31 and slipped under the radar while Wood took the spotlight with 5/14 against Delhi Capitals.
