CSK vs MI Awards List: Full List of Award Winners, Player of the Match, Key Facts, Captains' Words

Chennai Super Kings completed a resounding victory over Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 match on Saturday (May 2) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

MI, who won the toss and batted first, could only manage 159/7. Naman Dhir's fighting 57 and Ryan Rickelton's 37 were the main contributions, but Anshul Kamboj's 3/32 and Noor Ahmad's 2/26 triggered a late collapse on a slow Chepauk surface. Jasprit Bumrah (1/20) was frugal but lacked support.

CSK's chase was clinical. After an early loss of Sanju Samson, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (67*) and Kartik Sharma (54*) forged a dominant unbeaten stand, sealing the target in 18.1 overs. In a disappointing season so far, both teams have struggled for consistency.

This victory lifts CSK's morale and keeps their playoff hopes alive, while further denting MI's slim chances. The win underscores CSK's continued supremacy in this iconic rivalry at home. Gaikwad's composure and Kartik's flair shone brightest in a confident all-round performance.

CSK vs MI: Who Said What?

Hardik Pandya| MI Captain

"Not the season. They played better, they bowled better, they fielded better and they batted better. 180-190 should have been a good total. We couldn't get the momentum. It was more about playing calculative cricket. Overall, as a bowling unit, they were better and as a batting unit, we weren't better. The bowling options which we had, we went with it."

Ruturaj Gaikwad| CSK Captain

"Feels good. We started really well in the first couple of overs; they got momentum after that, but we pulled it back. It was about getting through those first couple of overs and then having one of the top three stay there. He (Kamboj) is someone who keeps it really simple, sticks to the process, and thinks like a batter. Noor has made some adjustments and come along really well. (On not playing Akeal) We thought about how to get the balance right-how to get a batter at eight and an extra bowler. Veer and Ghosh are someone who can contribute with both; they give extra cushion in the batting and bowl a couple of overs as well. Feels good to be there till the end. As I always say, I was feeling well and confident, but it's T20 cricket. I've been in a good frame of mind, and it was only a matter of time. (About Kartik Sharma) Good confidence booster for him and us as well. Yes, he is a six-hitter, but he has the other game too-he picks and chooses particular deliveries. Great sign for us, as Mr. Cricket said; he is someone who, if he gets going, can be great for us. We're keeping it really simple. Mistakes are going to happen, but we have to make sure we come back strong, give everything for the jersey and the fans."
