Chennai, May 5: In second El Clasico of the season, four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will host five-time champions Mumbai Indians in match 49 of IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday (May 6).
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s CSK will look to get back among the wins following a no result due to rain in their last outing, while Rohit Sharma-led MI will look to make it three wins on the trot for the second time this campaign.

Both teams are still alive in the playoff race and will be desperate for a win to consolidate or improve their positions. CSK will be a confident side heading into the match thanks to their record at home.
The hosts, however, don’t possess a great record against MI when this fixture is played at home or away from home. The visitors have been the most successful side on their visits to MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In the 35 meetings between the two sides in IPL since 2008, MI hold the advantage having won 20 times against CSK, who has won against the Mumbai-based side 15 times. In the last 5 meetings, however, it’s 3-2 in favour of CSK, who also won the reverse fixture last month.
In the reverse fixture earlier this season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Ravindra Jadeja’s 3 for 20 helped CSK restrict MI to 157, while Mumbai’s own Ajinkya Rahana smashed a quickfire 61 to power Dhoni’s team home.
In Chennai, CSK and MI have clashed 8 times so far. It's advantage MI as they have beaten CSK in their own den 6 times so far, while the home side has won just 2 times when they have hosted the Mumbai-based side in Chennai.
