In Match 49 of the IPL 2024, the five-time champion Chennai Super Kings will face Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday (May 1).
Both of the franchises have met each other 28 times in the past. In this neck-to-neck competition, CSK got the edge over PBKS by a 15-to-13 winning ratio. In their last three face-offs, Punjab remains the winner.

With five wins in nine matches, the Yellow Brigade is sitting fourth in the points table, whereas the Punjab side has managed to win only three, playing the same number of matches.
CSK has one of the best bowling units this season. Tushar Deshpande, Matheesha Pathirana, and Mustafizur Rahman-all of their fast bowlers are in great form.
While spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali are well-seasoned to bowl according to any situation. A very deep batting line-up with this finely balanced bowling unit made CSK formidable this season.
Whereas Punjab is a pacer-heavy side in this IPL. Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Kagiso Rabada are the main weapons in their pace battery. In the spin department, Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar have yet to deliver an impressive performance.
PBKS skipper Sam Curran is also bowling well in the last few matches. If the PBKS bowling becomes more consistent, there are still chances for them to go forward this season.
Mustafizur Rahman (CSK): The 28-year-old Bangladeshi pacer, with his slower deliveries and cutters, will be an asset for any squad in limited-overs cricket.
The left-arm medium-fast bowler is the second-highest wicket-taker of the season so far, with 14 wickets in eight matches. This might be the last match for the player, as he has to leave his team due to national team commitments. CSK will hope for a lethal performance from him in his last match.
Matheesha Pathirana (CSK): The Sri Lankan youngster is certainly the best bowler in this CSK squad. The 21-year-old right-arm fast bowler, with his unique action and fiery speed, has been a challenge for the batters so far. Pathirana already has 13 wickets in this IPL.
In the match against PBKS, his performance will be vital against the two in-form lower middle-order batters, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma.
Harshal Patel (PBKS): The Indian right-arm medium-fast bowler has picked up 14 wickets this season. The 33-year-old has 11 wickets in the four matches he played at the Chepauk, including a five-wicket haul.
Though this season he remains expensive, he is still able to get wickets in the crucial times of the innings. It will be expected of him to continue his records at this ground.
Arshdeep Singh (PBKS): The 25-year-old Indian pacer has bagged 12 wickets this season. The left-arm medium-fast bowler will be useful against in-form CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, as the latter has been dismissed four times against left-arm pace this season. Along with right-arm fast Kagiso Rabada, Singh will be a good matchup against CSK batters like Subham Dube.
After losing two consecutive matches against LSG, Chennai thrashed SRH in their last match. On the other hand, PBKS made a comeback in their last match against KKR after losing four games in a row.
Their win against KKR by making a record for the highest-ever successful run-chase in Men's T20 history will certainly give them extra confidence. Hence, an intense match can be expected from this battle of the Kings.
