CSK vs PBKS IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer Fined By BCCI After Punjab's Win Over Chennai- Here's Why

CSK vs PBKS: Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹12 lakh by the BCCI for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday (April 30).

The penalty was imposed after on-field umpires Akshay Totre and Anish Sahasrabudhe determined that Punjab were lagging behind the required over-rate. As a consequence, the team was also penalized on the field - allowed only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle during the final over of CSK's innings.

Despite the penalty, Punjab emerged victorious in a high-stakes contest, defeating CSK by four wickets to climb to second place on the IPL 2025 points table. With 13 points from 13 games and a net run rate of 0.19, the Kings now find themselves in strong contention for a playoff spot.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru continue to lead the standings with 14 points from 10 matches and an NRR of 0.52. Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans are tied at 12 points each, with MI edging ahead on net run rate (0.88).

Iyer, who was at the heart of Punjab's successful chase, played a captain's knock with a fluent 72 off 41 balls, featuring five fours and four sixes. His fourth half-century of the season came after a top-order wobble, but he and Prabhsimran Singh stabilized the innings with composed fifties.

Earlier, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal turned the game on its head with a late four-wicket burst, including a stunning hat-trick, to bowl CSK out for 190. Although Punjab faltered slightly toward the end of the chase, they held their nerve to reach 194/6 with two balls to spare, effectively knocking Chennai out of the playoff race.
