CSK vs RCB: Winless in 8 - Can Rajat Patidar Help Royal Challengers Bengaluru End Chepauk Drought in IPL 2025?

CSK vs RCB: Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will look to carry forward their home form against Southern rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in match 8 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (March 28).

At its Den - the Chepauk Stadium, CSK hold a terrific record of winning 51 out of 72 IPL matches played in the venue, which is known to be spinner-friendly. Over the years, CSK has used spin as a huge weapon in their home games.

CSK vs RCB record at Chepauk

CSK also hold a brilliant overall record against RCB, beating the Bengaluru-based side in 22 of the 33 fixtures across venues so far in the 15 seasons of IPL. Having already opened the campaign with an impressive win over Mumbai Indians, CSK will look to make Chepauk their fortress again.

In fact, CSK also has a terrific record against RCB in the Chennai Stadium. The Chennai-based side have tasted a lot of success against the Bengaluru-based side at Chepauk, contributing to their brilliant winning percentage in a home venue.

CSK vs RCB has alway delivered, but the 2025 match will bring more fire after Royal Challengers Bengaluru eliminated Chennai Super Kings from making it into the playoffs last season in the final league stage match in Bengaluru.

While CSK hold a great track record at home and in fixtures against RCB, has the Bengaluru-based side ever won at the home of the Super Kings in the last 15 seasons of the Indian Premier League? Here is a look at RCB's performance at the Chepauk:

Has RCB beaten CSK in the Chennai Stadium in IPL history?

The Royal Challengers have lost in their last eight matches against CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. But the Bengaluru-based side has one victory to it's name in IPL matches against CSK in Chennai.

When was RCB's last win over CSK in Chennai?

In the inaugural season in 2008, after Dhoni-led CSK beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, but RCB led by Rahul Dravid avenged that loss in the reverse fixture at the Chepauk.

How RCB defeated CSK at Chepauk in IPL 2008?

Struggling at 41/4 at the end of 10 overs, skipper Dravid (47 off 39) and Praveen Kumar (21 off 11) made useful contributions to help RCB reach 126/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

With not much needed, CSK got off to a solid start as openers Parthiv Patel (20 off 24) and Stephen Fleming (45 off 40) shared a 60-run stand before Anil Kumble (3 for 13) sent both the set batters back into the dugout, while Vinay Kumar removed Dhoni in between the two dismissals.

At 84/3 in 13.2 overs, CSK were still in control of the chase thanks to Suresh Raina's unbeaten 21 off 20, but the southpaw didn't find any support from the other end as Dale Steyn, Praveen Kumar and Kumle added a wicket each to stop the chase at 112/8.

That result in 2008 is the only win for RCB vs CSK on Chennai soil. The Royal Challengers have since lost on their seven visits to face CSK in Chennai. But they have four more wins at the venue against different oppostions.

Has RCB won in the Chennai Stadium in previous IPL seasons?

In 2021 season when the MA Chidambaram Stadium was used as a neutral venue due to the COVID-enforced scheduling, RCB had wins over Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knights Riders.

Also in the 2011 season, RCB had beaten Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier to reach the final, which they eventually lost to CSK at the same venue in Chennai. Overall, the Bengaluru-based side has won only 5 times in 13 matches at Chepauk.

Can RCB end their eight-match winless run against CSK in Chennai in IPL 2025?

With new skipper Rajat Patidar at the helm, RCB will hope for better fortunes, but the conditions and the quality of spinners in CSK ranks, makes it even more a tough challenge for the Bengaluru-based side to get the better of Chennai Super Kings on their home soil.
