Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opens up on his friendship with Rajat Patidar and what the presence of Virat Kohli brings to a game ahead of the first Southern Derby of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
On the backdrop of last season's elimination from the playoff race and the way the Bengluru-based side celebrated their victory at home, CSK will be looking for revenge when they host rivals RCB at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (March 28).

The clash between CSK and RCB is a pulsating saga, woven with threads of regional pride, iconic rivalries, and a history of gripping encounters. This southern derby, a spectacle that consistently delivers high-octane drama, holds a special place in the hearts of cricket enthusiasts.
The intensity of the CSK-RCB rivalry stems from a confluence of factors. The geographical proximity of Chennai and Bengaluru ignites a fervent sense of regional competition, with fans passionately defending their respective cities.
This regional fervor is further amplified by the presence of cricketing legends. Virat Kohli, a symbol of RCB's unwavering spirit, and the legacy of MS Dhoni, and the current captaincy of Gaikwad for CSK, create a star-studded spectacle that captivates audiences worldwide.
In a recent interaction on JioStar's "Star Nahi Far" initiative, CSK captain Gaikwad provided valuable insights into the dynamics of this rivalry. He acknowledged the strong bond of friendship with RCB's new captain, Rajat Patidar, while also emphasizing the immense challenge of facing Virat Kohli.
"Really looking forward to playing against RCB, especially with Rajat (Patidar) as the new captain. Immediately when they announced Rajat as the captain, I messaged him and wished him good luck. We have been friends for a while now, we know each other really well, and obviously, RCB has been one of the strongest teams," Gaikwad said.
However, Gaikwad also underscored the unparalleled intensity that Virat Kohli brings to the contest. "And whenever Virat Kohli is in the opposition, whenever he is playing, it is always a clash to look forward to.
"He's been doing it for a really long time now, consistently for RCB and for the country as well. So, it is always a great match, and after Mumbai Indians, this is the second match we always look forward to."
