CSK vs RCB, IPL 2025: 'Vintage Stat Padder' - Fans Troll MS Dhoni After Walking Out to Bat When Game is Lost

By MyKhel Staff

CSK vs RCB: Netizens unforgiving towards the 'best finisher' Mahendra Singh Dhoni after the veteran wicketkeeper-batter walked out to bat at number nine in Chennai Super Kings' 50-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025 on Friday (March 28).

Needing more than 12 an over in the chase of 197, MS Dhoni came out to bat after Ravichandran Ashwin in the 16th over when the game was already lost for CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Many have questioned Dhoni's batting position in CSK with the seasoned campaigner walking in to bat way too late. Former CSK players Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa also hoped to see him bat up the order.

The former India captain remained unbeaten on 30 off 16 balls and pleased the Chepauk crowd with some boundaries in the final overs when it hardly mattered. This has been the case on most occasions, but the fans were not happy with the veteran's batting position and took to social media to express their views.

One user directly took a swipe at the former Indian wicketkeeper, highlighting how he walks out to bat when the game is already lost and fool the fans with some boundaries, labelling the best finisher a vintage stat padder.

Revered by many as the best finisher and with top numbers in the death overs, one would question if all those numbers mattered when it counted for nothing many times. Another user put it exactly as it is, saying Dhoni walks out to bat in only two situations.

One more user stated facts and took a dig at the commentators, who many feel are PR agents, for not discussing about where he came out to bat and rather focused on a stumping which hardly mattered in the context of the game.

Coming back to the match at Chepauk, RCB rode on skipper Rajat Patidar's fifty and Tim David's late cameo to set a challenging total of 196 before Josh Hazlewood starred with the ball to restrict CSK to 146 and helped his team win against the southern rivals at the Chepauk for the first time since 2008.
