CSK vs RCB: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) posted a competitive 196 for 7 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk, with Rajat Patidar leading the charge with a well-compiled 51 off 32 balls.
On a surface that offered some assistance to bowlers, RCB’s batters showed attacking intent, with seven of them getting into double figures. However, Virat Kohli endured a difficult outing, crawling to 31 off 30 balls before falling to Noor Ahmad.

Having been put in to bat, RCB had a promising start but were soon tested by CSK’s bowling attack. Patidar, enjoying an early reprieve on 17, made the most of his chances. He was aggressive yet composed, finding boundaries when required and surviving three half-chances along the way. His knock featured three sixes and played a crucial role in RCB’s push towards a competitive total.
Opener Phil Salt gave RCB an explosive start with a brisk 32, while Devdutt Padikkal surprised CSK with his aggressive intent at No. 3. However, the Chennai spinners found ways to counter the momentum. Ravichandran Ashwin got his revenge against Padikkal, while Noor Ahmad’s spell made a significant impact on the innings.
Noor Ahmad, the young left-arm wrist-spinner, continued his rich vein of form, adding three wickets to his tally after bagging four in the previous match. He dismissed Salt, Kohli, and Liam Livingstone, making life difficult for RCB’s batters. One of the highlights of the innings was another lightning-fast stumping by MS Dhoni, who capitalised on a momentary lapse by a right-hander as Noor spun the ball past the outside edge.
Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of CSK’s pace attack, extracting movement early on and later stifling RCB’s batters with smart variations. His final over, the 18th of the innings, yielded a crucial breakthrough and ensured that RCB couldn’t break free completely.
Matheesha Pathirana, brought into the XI in place of Nathan Ellis, produced a fantastic penultimate over. He removed Patidar and conceded just a solitary run, that too via a wide, in the 19th over. At that stage, it seemed RCB might fall short of the 190-run mark.
However, Tim David had other plans. Sam Curran, entrusted with the 20th over despite limited bowling in the tournament, faced an onslaught from the power-hitter. David clobbered him for three sixes, pushing RCB’s total to 196 and giving them momentum heading into the second innings.
With the pitch not assisting spin as much as expected, CSK had limited returns from Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who combined for just five overs and leaked 59 runs. RCB’s intent against spin was evident, and it disrupted CSK’s plans throughout the innings.
Now, with 196 on the board, all eyes will be on whether RCB can break their 16-year-long winless streak against CSK in Chennai.
