Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tushar Deshpande starred as five-time champions Chennai Super Kings got back to winning ways with a thumping 78-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 46 of IPL 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (April 28).
After skipper Gaikwad (98 off 54 balls) and Daryl Mitchell (52 off 32 balls) powered CSK to 212 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs, Deshpande (4 for 27) did the damage with the ball to bundle out SRH for 134 in 18.5 overs.

Chasing 213 on a sluggish wicket, Aiden Markram (32 off 26 balls) was the top-scorer for SRH as the in-form openers Travis Head (13) and Abhishek Sharma (17) were removed inside the powerplay by Deshpande.
The Mumbai pacer also dismissed impact sub Anmolpreet Singh for a first-ball duck to spoil SRH's continued domination in the powerplay. Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman also got into the act as the pair claimed two wickets each.
Pathirana (2 for 17) removed Markram and the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen (20), while Mustafizur dismissed Shahbaz Ahmed before cleaning up the tail with the wicket of Jaydev Unadkat.
With the win, CSK leadp-frogged three other teams including SRH, who are all on 10 points, to take the number three spot in the IPL 2024 points table. CSK rebounded from back-to-back defeats to Lucknow Super Giants, while SRH suffered their second successive loss.
Earlier, put into bat, CSK lost opener Ajinkya Rahane (9) early leading to a big setback but Gaikwad (98 off 54 balls) carried out the repair work in right earnest with New Zealander Mitchell, who scored 52 off 32 deliveries.
The pair also shared a 107-run stand for the second wicket, which was the backbone of the CSK batting. Shivam Dube then played a cameo of 39 not out (20 balls) and shared a 74-run stand with his skipper to guide CSK to a 200-plus total. For SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat and T Natarajan took a wicket each.
