The five-time-champion Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai on Sunday (April 28).
Both teams have met each other 20 times in the past but this rivalry is completely one-sided as CSK have won 14 times while SRH won the remaining six. Their last meeting was a few days back, in this IPL, where SRH beat CSK by 6 wickets.

After starting the season with two back-to-back wins, Chennai's IPL journey got very much inconsistent. They have won only two out of their last six matches. They lost the last two matches against LSG. As a result, CSK dropped to sixth position with 8 points in eight matches. SRH is sitting at third with 10 points in eight matches. Their 4-match winning streak came to a halt after losing to RCB at their home in the last match.
Chepauk has traditionally favoured spinners due to its slow and dry pitch. But in the last few matches, dew played a major role in the ineffectiveness of the spinners. Though in this season pacers remain more effective than the spinners on this ground.
CSK have a very balanced bowling attack for IPL 2024. Mustafizur Rahman, Tushar Deshpande, Matheesha Pathirana, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur will lead the Chennai pace battery while their spin department will be spearheaded by Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja.
On the other hand, SRH has a pacer-heavy bowling attack. Their pace line-up will be led by the skipper Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and will be assisted by T. Natarajan and Jayadev Unadkat. While their spin attack lacks the consistency they have in their pace department and will be led by Mayank Markande and Shahbaz Ahmed.
Matheesha Pathirana (CSK): The 21-year-old Srilankan pacer is known for his clingy action with the ability to pick wickets regularly. In this season the right-arm fast bowler is in brilliant form, as he bagged 11 wickets just in five matches he played. It will be a test for him to contain the SRH batters within a small score.
Moeen Ali (CSK): The 36-year-old English veteran can be very effective against Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen with his right-arm off-spin. Using him in the powerplay against the SRH's left-handed opening pair could be a perfect match-up to get early wickets.
T. Natarajan (SRH): The Indian left-arm medium pacer is in brilliant form and is the highest wicket-taker for SRH this season with 12 wickets so far. He also bagged 60 wickets in his IPL career with a decent economy rate. Along with Pat Cummins, it will be a challenge for him to fight the CSK top order.
Pat Cummins (SRH): The SRH skipper has picked 10 wickets in this IPL. The Australian right-arm fast bowler will have the task of preventing Shivam Dube from playing a fiery knock, as the batter is proficient in playing spin and SRH does have a weak spin attack. Though his true challenge will be to get an early wicket of CSK openers.
Both the teams have lost their last matches, though SRH is in a better position in the league, but both have suffered a few losses which they will try to recover as fast as possible. CSK's overwhelming record over SRH and the visitors’ inability to win a match ever at Chepauk will give confidence to the host. Hence, a cutthroat battle can be expected from these two belligerents in this Sunday evening clash.
