In the high-voltage IPL 2025 encounter between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Kamindu Mendis produced a moment of magic that could well be remembered as the "Catch of the Tournament."

With CSK building momentum and Dewald Brevis in punishing form, SRH were desperately in need of a breakthrough. Brevis had just smashed three consecutive sixes in an over, pushing CSK well beyond the 100-run mark and shifting the pressure back on Hyderabad.

Then came the defining moment. In the 13th over, Harshal Patel delivered a well-disguised slower ball. Brevis went for another big hit but mistimed it, failing to get the required elevation. Positioned at long-off, Kamindu Mendis sprinted across, launched into a full-length dive to his left, and plucked the ball clean out of the air in a gravity-defying effort.

The crowd was stunned. The CSK dugout, in disbelief. Brevis, who had raced to 42 off 25 balls, had to walk back, leaving CSK at 114 for 5. The catch didn't just remove the most dangerous batter - it dramatically swung the momentum in SRH's favour.

It was a brilliant grab and the commentators were in awe after Kamindu completed the sensational effort.

"Ohh outstanding. Absolutely outstanding from Kamindu Mendis," exclaimed commentator Ian Bishop on air after the catch.

SRH owner Kavya Maran was also stunned and appreciated the catch from the Sri Lanka player. Her reaction went viral as the SRH glamour queen was simply stunned by it.

The fans hailed Mendis for his brilliance in the field. In the T20 format, catches are crucial and in a season where there have been many dropped ones, the catch from Mendis is sublime.

The catch completely turned the dynamics of the match. From 114 for 4 in the 13th over and looking on course for a decent target, CSK got bundled out for just 154 runs.

Some fans believe it is the greatest catch in the history of IPL across the years.

Kamindu Mendis cancelled his Honeymoon to join the SRH side and the fans hailed his sacrifice.

"It was my left hand. I think it happened naturally. I am comfortable a bit more with right arm, because my dominant arm is right. But when I practice, I do bowling with both hands," Mendis said in the mid-innings interview.
