CSK vs SRH: Why Chennai Super Kings fans celebrated Ruturaj Gaikwad's dismissal at 98?

CSK vs SRH: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans celebrated their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's dismissal despite him missing on a third IPL hundred by just two runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, April 28.

On the second ball of the 20th over, Gaikwad miscued a shot towards deep mid-wicket on the second ball of the 20th over, and Sunrisers Hyderabad's Nitish Reddy, who was patrolling the region, made no mistake in taking the high catch.

At a time when Chennai Super Kings fans should have got disappointed by the dismissal of their young captain, they went berserk in the stands and rolled out the chants of 'Dhoni, Dhoni'.

The decibel level only increased once MS Dhoni started to walk towards the middle of the Chepauk. Sunrisers Hyderabad players were awestruck by the reactions of fans as the former Chennai and India captain came out to bat with just four balls to spare.

The 42-year-old whipped the first ball for a boundary towards backward square leg as the fan frenzy reached its epitome. Sakshi, the wife of MS Dhoni, joined the 38,000 fans in the stadium to cheer for the iconic cricketer.

Dhoni mistimed a pull for a single on the next delivery, before Shivam Dube sent the fifth ball from T Natarajan flying over mid-wicket boundary for a massive six. Another single on the final delivery helped CSK finish at 212/3. Dube finished on unbeaten 39 off 20 deliveries.

Apart from Gaikwad, Daryl Mitchell also chipped in with 52 off 32 deliveries. Ajinkya Rahane scored 9 off 12 at the top. The 98 runs from Gaikwad made him the third cricketer in the ongoing edition of the IPL to score over 400 runs. He is currently placed second amongst highest run-scorers this season.

Gaikwad has scored 447 runs in nine matches at an average of 63.85 and a strike rate of 149.49. Virat Kohli has 500 runs from 10 matches.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has two IPL hundreds to his name, but unfortunately CSK lost on both the occasions. He scored 108 not out runs in his last outing against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), but his team ended up losing by six wickets. However, we can confirm that the same was not the reason why CSK fans celebrated his dismissal.
