During the IPL 2025 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, an unusual incident caught the attention of fans.
The umpires stopped play to inspect Ravindra Jadeja's bat after the CSK player came to the crease. The moment sparked curiosity across the cricketing world.

The inspection of Jadeja's bat wasn't a random occurrence but part of a broader initiative introduced in IPL 2025 to enforce strict compliance with bat size regulations. As part of this initiative, on-field umpires are empowered to check bats during play, ensuring they adhere to the standard specifications set under global cricket regulations.
According to the official guidelines, a bat must pass cleanly through a bat gauge. It must not exceed a blade width of 4.25 inches, a depth of 2.64 inches, and an edge thickness of 1.56 inches. If any bat fails to meet these criteria, it is immediately deemed unfit for play.
During a routine check, Jadeja's bat did not pass through the standard bat gauge. The dimensions likely exceeded the allowed limits, prompting the umpires to ask for a replacement. Although Jadeja did not contest the decision, the bat switch indicated non-compliance with the set measurements.
The CSK player hilariously tried to reshape it by rubbing it on the deck, but ended up getting a new piece of willow.
Traditionally, bat checks were conducted before matches in the dressing room. However, teams occasionally swapped out compliant bats for bulkier ones during the game. To address this, the IPL has implemented on-field spot checks as a preventive measure. This system ensures that players continue using regulation-approved bats throughout the match, eliminating any tactical advantage that could be gained from oversized equipment.
At the time of publishing of this article, CSK are 94 for 4 in the 12th over of the match. Jadeja batted decently and scored 21 runs off 17 deliveries before getting dismissed.
