Ahmedabad, March 8: A tense moment unfolded during the T20 World Cup 2026 Final between India and New Zealand when a brief on-field confrontation broke out between Arshdeep Singh and Daryl Mitchell during the high-pressure clash here at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (March 8).
The incident occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand's chase when emotions ran high after Mitchell smashed two towering sixes in the same over off Arshdeep.

After being hit for back-to-back sixes, Arshdeep attempted a run-out in the following delivery when Mitchell squeezed a wide yorker back towards the bowler.
The Indian pacer fired a throw at the stumps, but it struck Mitchell on the thigh instead. The New Zealand batter was visibly furious and immediately turned towards Arshdeep, gesturing angrily while walking aggressively towards him.
Mitchell clearly felt the throw was unnecessary, particularly since there was little chance of a run-out.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav quickly stepped in to defuse the situation. The skipper walked up to Mitchell and appeared to apologise on behalf of his teammate, helping ease tensions on the field.
The on-field umpire also had a brief conversation with Arshdeep Singh following the incident, reminding him to maintain composure in the intense final.
Just moments before the confrontation, Mitchell had taken charge against Arshdeep Singh.
On 10.2 overs, Mitchell smashed a powerful six over deep square leg after swiping a good-length delivery.
On 10.3 overs, he followed it up with another massive hit over midwicket, putting the Indian pacer under pressure. The left-arm pacer bowled a wide on the next ball, followed it with a dot ball, which the bowler stopped on his own and threw towards the strike batter.
Those two consecutive sixes appeared to frustrate Arshdeep, which may have contributed to the aggressive throw back at the batter.
Fortunately, the situation cooled quickly. On the final ball of the over, Mitchell squeezed a wide yorker through point for a single.
As he ran past the bowler, Mitchell and Arshdeep exchanged a handshake, signalling that the brief flashpoint had been resolved and the game could continue without further confrontation.
The incident added another layer of drama to what was already a gripping T20 World Cup final.
