Australia opener David Warner's wife Candice has opened up on his 36-year-old husband's future plans in international cricket. Candice Warner had made it clear that the southpaw still had the "burning desire" to open the batting for Australia.
Candice has also revealed that Warner did not retire after the third and final Test against South Africa in Sydney in January this year as he wished to feature in the just-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India and The Ashes 2023 in June in England.
"David still has a burning desire to open the batting for Australia. There's still a lot of things that he wants to achieve that he hasn't achieved," Candice Warner told Yahoo Sport Australia.
"And clearly one of those would be to perform at the best he possibly can in England against the Dukes ball. Whether the selectors and the coach allows him that, I don't know. But I do know he still has that desire and that hunger to continue.

"He'd love to go out on his terms but you're not always afforded that opportunity and David fully realises that. He could have easily retired after the Sydney Test this year, but that's not what he wants. He still wanted to contribute to the team in India and still be there at the Ashes and then we'll just see," she added.
Notably, there have been calls to drop Warner because of his dipping form in the red-ball format. In the two Test matches against India, he scored 26 runs in two matches before being ruled out due to an elbow fracture.
He was named in the 3-match ODI squad against India but did not feature in the playing eleven of the first two ODIs. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh formed an impressive opening pair in his absence.

Further, Candice added that there were plenty of T20 leagues where Warner can continue playing but for now representing Australia was the main goal of the veteran cricketer.
"There are so many (T20 franchises) around the world, whether it be the IPL, the Dubai League, the BBL, America, South Africa, Pakistan. There's also his role with Fox Sports which he's excited about and wants to develop. We'll just have to wait and see but at this stage he's fully committed to playing cricket for Australia," said Candice.
Warner has featured in 103 Test matches for India and scored 8158 runs (25 hundreds) at an average of 45.57. In 141 ODI matches, he has scored 6007 runs (19 hundreds) at an average of 45.16. He has also featured in 99 T20Is for Australia to score 2894 runs (one hundred) at an average of 32.88.
