Willey takes Lyon apart in crushing England win in T20 warm-up game

Canberra, Feb 2: David Willey took 34 off an over from Nathan Lyon in a brutal onslaught as England eased to an eight-wicket Twenty20 warm-up victory over a Prime Minister's XI.

Lyon tormented England's batsmen during Australia's 4-1 Ashes triumph, but Willey gave the spinner the treatment in Canberra on Friday.

Willey brought up his half-century in a flash by smashing the first five balls of the Prime Minister's XI captain's second over for six and struck the final delivery through the covers for four.

Lyon unsurprisingly gave himself a rest with Willey, sent in to open with James Vince, in full flow on 61 off only 26 balls after taking 3-32 as the Prime Minister's XI could only muster 136-8.

Mitchell Swepson got rid of Willey for 79 from 36 deliveries but England took only 12.4 overs to wrap up an emphatic win at Manuka Oval on the eve of the first game of the tri-series tournament between Australia and New Zealand.

Australia and England renew their rivalries in Hobart next Wednesday, when Lyon might be counting his blessings that he does not feature for his country in white-ball cricket.
