With the 2025 IPL mega auction on the horizon, Delhi Capitals (DC) have taken a bold step in reshaping their squad.
By retaining only four players - Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and the uncapped Abhishek Porel - hey have freed up a significant amount of budget.

The massive budget will certainly put them in a stronger position to go for their targets in the auction to strengthen the potential areas to build a fresh and competitive lineup.
Due to the new regulations by BCCI for IPL auction, a salary cap of Rs. 120 Cr. Has been set for each franchise. By retaining only four players, DC will be at considerable financial flexibility in the upcoming auction. DC’s minimal retention strategy suggests they are focused on building a new core team and freed up a large portion of their budget. By choosing to retain only these players, DC avoids tying up funds with high-profile contracts, allowing them to enter the auction with a competitive purse.
Axar Patel: 16.50 Cr.
Kuldeep Yadav: 13.25 Cr.
Tristan Stubbs: 10 Cr.
Abhishek Porel (Uncapped) 4 Cr.
According to the new regulation, the first choice retention will cost 18 Cr, the second choice will cost 14 Cr. and the third will cost 11 Crore. Although the Capitals spent only Rs 39.75 crore to retain the three capped players, they are deducted a total of Rs 43 crore. As DC also kept an uncapped player, hence their spending tally has been slotted as Rs 47 crore.
Hence at the IPL 2025 auction, the Delhi Capitals will have a total purse kitty of Rs 73 crore.
Tristan Stubbs is the only overseas player retained and Abhishek Porel is the only one among the uncapped players. While the other two retentions, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, will make the core of the DC spin attack. The Capitals will have two RTM options to bring back some talents from the past squad.
