In the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunil Narine is seen captaining KKR at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The Knight Riders are defending a total of 204 runs after batting first, and Narine is currently marshalling the troops.

Why is Sunil Narine captaining KKR Today?

Sunil Narine took over captaincy from Ajinkya Rahane as the KKR captain went off the field after sustaining an injury. Rahane, while fielding a cover region, injured his finger and then had to be taken off.

Since then, the Mumbai player hasn't arrived on the field, and he has designated the captaincy duties to the West Indies all-rounder. Despite Venkatesh Iyer playing in the match, there can be questions why Narine took over the captain's duties.

But the reason behind that is Venkatesh Iyer was subbed off and Vaibhav Arora was introduced as an Impact player in the mid innings, which meant someone had to take over the captain's role. As Rahane went off, he gave the duties to the KKR legend, who has been outstanding in his leadership so far.

Narine is also the one who changed the course of the match with the ball. In his last two overs, the KKR star has picked up 3 wickets and has tilted the match towards the defending champions.
