DC vs LSG: Tristan Stubbs had a mixed outing in Delhi Capitals' thrilling one-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2025 opener in Visakhapatnam. While his off-spin bore the brunt of Nicholas Pooran's onslaught, he made a valuable contribution with the bat that played a crucial role in DC's incredible chase of 210.
Bowling his off-breaks in the tenth over, Stubbs found himself at the receiving end of an absolute assault by Pooran. The West Indies power-hitter launched into the part-time bowler, smashing four consecutive sixes followed by a boundary, taking 28 runs off the over.

That brutal hitting set LSG on course for a massive total, as they crossed the 100-run mark in just nine overs. At that stage, even a score of 250 looked possible.
However, DC bowlers fought back strongly in the final overs, restricting LSG to 209 for 8 despite explosive half-centuries from Pooran (75 off 30) and Mitchell Marsh (72 off 36). Kuldeep Yadav's brilliant spell (2 for 20) and Mitchell Starc's incisive three-wicket burst (3 for 42) ensured that LSG could only add 33 runs in the last six overs while losing six wickets.
Chasing 210, DC found themselves in deep trouble early, slipping to 7 for 3 inside two overs. Stubbs walked in at 65 for 5 and joined debutant Vipraj Nigam at the crease, with the equation looking daunting. While Nigam played the aggressor, taking on Ravi Bishnoi and Shahbaz Ahmed, Stubbs provided much-needed stability. He rotated the strike effectively and picked his moments to attack, striking a crucial 34 off 22 balls.
Just when he looked set to push the innings deeper, Stubbs fell to Digvesh Rathi in the 13th over, leaving DC at 116 for 6. At that point, the win probability had DC at just 1.46%. But Ashutosh Sharma had other plans.
The hard-hitting finisher, who had shone for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024, unleashed an extraordinary counterattack, smashing 46 off his last 11 balls to pull off a stunning heist. His last-over six down the ground sealed the victory with three balls to spare, sending the DC dugout into jubilation.
While Stubbs may not have stolen the limelight, his composed knock in a tense chase played a vital supporting role. Despite the carnage he faced with the ball, his contribution with the bat helped set the stage for Ashutosh's heroics, ensuring DC got their IPL 2025 campaign off to a dramatic start.
