DC vs MI: Mumbai Indians held their nerve to pull off a narrow 12-run win over Delhi Capitals in the 29th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 on 13th April, Sunday.
In a contest packed with momentum swings and individual brilliance, KL Rahul's dismissal proved to be the decisive moment in the run chase as Delhi, despite a spirited fightback, fell short in a thrilling finish at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Delhi Capitals were put on the back foot early as Mumbai Indians came out with aggressive intent. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma (18 off 12) and Ryan Rickelton (41 off 25) laid the platform before Suryakumar Yadav (40 off 28) and Tilak Varma (59 off 33) capitalized in the middle overs.
Tilak was especially destructive, smashing 3 fours and 6 sixes during his blistering knock. But it was Naman Dhir's 17-ball 38* that provided the final flourish. His remarkable running on the last ball of the innings - where he and Will Jacks completed four runs thanks to an overthrow - pushed MI's total to a daunting 205/5 in 20 overs.
Vipraj Nigam was the pick of the DC bowlers with 2/42, while Kuldeep Yadav also chipped in with two wickets.
Chasing 206, Delhi got off to the worst possible start, losing Jake Fraser-McGurk on the very first delivery. However, the experienced Karun Nair - making a comeback to the IPL after three years - rose to the occasion with a stunning counterattack. The right-hander rolled back the years with a sublime 89 off just 40 deliveries, featuring 12 fours and 2 sixes.
It was also Nair's first IPL half-century in seven years - a knock born out of perseverance and his strong showing in the domestic circuit that earned him a late IPL return. He stitched vital partnerships with Abishek Porel (33 off 25) and later with KL Rahul to bring DC within striking distance.
With the equation in Delhi's favor and Karun Nair already dismissed, KL Rahul held the key as he looked to anchor the back end of the chase. However, just when it seemed like Delhi might pull off a heist, Rahul (15 off 13) perished in the 16th over - caught and bowled by Karn Sharma - attempting an ill-timed stroke.
That wicket derailed Delhi's chase. From 160/5, needing just 46 off 27 balls with five wickets in hand, DC suffered a collapse and managed only 33 more runs, losing their remaining five wickets in the space of 18 deliveries.
Karn Sharma emerged as MI's bowling hero, claiming 3/36, including the crucial scalp of Rahul. Mitchell Santner was effective too with 2/32, while Bumrah, although expensive, got the key wicket of Axar Patel.
Delhi were bowled out for 193 in 19 overs, falling agonizingly short of the target. The final over, where they needed 13 runs with two wickets in hand, ended in chaos with Kuldeep Yadav and Mohit Sharma being run out in quick succession.
